Surveys
- The Survey Association publishes a Directory of Members which is available on their website. [www.tsa-uk.org.uk]
British Standards Institution (BSi)
BS 5930 Code of practice for site investigations
- Primarily concerned with geotechnical investigations but includes, at Annex D1, basic information about land surveys. It is included here solely because it is referred to in NBS Section C10.
BS 5964-3 Building setting-out and measurement - Part 3:
Check-lists for the procurement of surveys and measurement services
- Just three pages, and a single page Appendix, but a useful starting point for simple surveys where the RICS document might be considered too detailed.
National Building Specification (NBS)
Section C10 - Site Survey
- This provides a basic specification format but omits a lot of the detail included in the RICS document. A useful basis if suitably expanded for larger, or more complex, surveys.
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
Surveys of Land, Buildings and Utility Services at Scales of 1:500 and Larger - Client Specification Guidelines
- This is an extremely comprehensive document which pre-dates both the British Standard and the NBS - the current (second) edition was published in March 1996. It is still the definitive basis for specifying land and measured building surveys and is available from the RICS Bookshop - more details.
The Survey Association (TSA)
TSA Guidance Notes
- The TSA publishes two simple single page guidance notes - "Guidance Notes For Successful Survey Tendering" and "TSA Basic Land/Building Survey Enquiry Sheet". These are available from the TSA website at www.tsa-uk.org.uk.
