Accredited Details

• Accredited Construction Details (ACD’s) have been developed to assist with demonstrating compliance with the energy efficiency requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations (England and Wales), particularly the issues of insulation continuity (minimising cold bridging) and airtightness.
• There is an introductory section, and a series of indicative detail drawings grouped by generic construction type. The details contain checklists which should be used by the Designer, Constructor and Building Control Body to demonstrate compliance.
• The introductory section, and the details, are available to download from the Planning Portal website.

Accredited details for steel framing systems

• One of the five groups of Accredited Details covers Light Steel Framing Systems. The details all show a brick veneer outer skin although the principles are equally applicable to rainscreen and insulated render systems.
• The introductory page, on the Planning Portal website, to the Steel Frame Details emphasises the desirability of placing all the insulation external to the steel frame.

Robust Details

• Robust Details provide a route to compliance for Part E of the Building Regulations (England and Wales). They may be used as an alternative to on-site pre-completion sound testing and are also recognised in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
• Unlike the Accredited Details, which are freely available, Robust Details are managed as a non-profit business by Robust Details Limited who assess and approve new Part E Robust Details and provide a registration service that enables builders to use them in the construction of their new homes. Detail drawings and specifications are contained in the Robust Details Handbook (£65 from Robust Details Limited).
